Four schools perform musical about growing up

By Shepparton News

Shepparton High School, McGuire College, Wanganui Park and Mooroopna Secondary College have teamed together for the “grown up musical about growing up”, 13 – The Musical.

Fostering a collaboration between Year 7 students and VCE Theatre students, the musical interprets Jason Robert Brown’s tale about teenage life.

Production director Lenore Davison said students were able to relate to the main character Evan Goldman.

“Evan is a young Jewish boy living in New York City who is just about to turn 13 and preparing for his Bar Mitzvah,” Ms Davison said.

“Enormous and unforeseeable changes suddenly occur in his life which impact his family, home, school and friends.”

She said after observing how well the mixture of students from the different schools worked together, auditions were opened to Year 7 students.

“I have been thrilled with the energy and enthusiasm each school has brought to our rehearsals,” Ms Davison said.

13 – The Musical will be held at Riverlinks Westside, Echuca Rd, Mooroopna on Thursday, October 31 and Friday November 1 from 7.30pm.
