Golfers to tee off for Charity

By James Bennett

Mooroopna Golf Club is ready for enthusiastic golfers to tee off on Monday to raise funds for a worthy cause.

The 18-hole mixed stableford event is the biggest fundraiser for Shepparton Riding for the Disabled.

Mooroopna Golf Club women’s committee president Brenda Pye said the day was about continuing a strong partnership.

‘‘For many years now we’ve held this charity day for RDA. We identified a need and felt this was a good way to help them out with all proceeds donated back,’’ she said.

‘‘The ladies who do their own baking bring along their preserves, we have a trading table, raffle and many other things.

‘‘The club also gives a donation over and above what we’ve raised on the day.’’

Last year, the day raised about $2000 for Shepparton RDA.

Mrs Pye said not only was the event about fundraising, but was also a social day.

‘‘It’s a great chance to bring some of their members along to our club and be part of something different, as well as some of our members travelling out to their facilities,’’ she said.

‘‘It’s such a wonderful cause. All you need to do is look at what the fabulous volunteers do for young adults and children with disabilities to see how empowering it is for them.

‘‘It has always been a good partnership between the two groups and we’re delighted to be a part of it; just hoping for nice weather.’’

Shepparton RDA secretary Cathy Hamilton said the funds went to buying equipment and improving the facilities for the young riders.

Golfers are asked to arrive at Mooroopna Golf Club on Monday at 9am for 9.30am tee-off. To enter, email Helen Kiss at or phone 0419105499. Entry is $25, which includes lunch. Entries close Friday morning.
