Undie Sunday run in Shepparton

By Shepparton News

Less than a week remains to register for next Sunday’s Cupid’s Undie Run.

The initiative of the Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia aims to raise $500000 to help find a cure for the genetic disorder neurofibromatosis.

The run will cover a 1.5km course around Shepparton’s Victoria Park Lake, beginning near Wyndham St.

Organisers aim to fire the starting gun at 9.30am.

Shepparton will be one of 15 locations to host the event.

Shepparton race director Kerry Connolly is spearheading the event.

Her grandson Xavier Wynn has been diagnosed with the painful and progressive condition, which causes tumours to form on nerve cells, including the brain and spine.

There is no cure for the illness.

‘‘There are a number of kids out there that have this condition, that have to go to the hospital on a regular basis, and because there is no cure that’s why it’s so important to raise as much funds as we can for this condition,’’ she said.

Last year, the run raised just short of the $500000 goal and this year organisers aim to beat that mark.

All participants will receive a pair of limited-edition Calvin Klein Cupid’s undies, a Cupid’s participant kit, refreshments and access to the Cupid’s after-party.

‘‘Every participant that raises $500 for CTF will receive a Cupid’s supporter pack and will go in the draw to win an Acer laptop. Prizes and competitions will be up for grabs for our fundraisers across the nation,’’ Ms Connolly said.
