Furry friends, big and small, braved the cold weather on Saturday to meet lots of new faces at PETstock Shepparton’s National Adoption Day.
Shepparton Animal Shelter worked with PETstock on the day to find forever homes for a number of the animals in their care.
Shelter attendant Naomi Harrington said the community response had been fantastic with people lining up from the early hours of the morning to meet the pets available for adoption.
‘‘We had people lined up from about 8.30am and we sold three dogs straight off, we had lots of visitors after that and had a really good response from the whole day,’’ Ms Harrington said.
‘‘We also had people coming along and asking questions as well about their animals they have at home and the other animals we still have at the shelter.’’
While 20 cats and dogs were up for adoption at PETstock on Saturday, Ms Harrington said there were still more pets at the shelter looking for their forever homes.
She encouraged anyone wanting to buy a pet to consider adopting an animal already in need.
‘‘There are so many gorgeous animals out there, instead of just buying a puppy from a breeder or a worse situation, these animals have so much to offer,’’ she said.
‘‘They make beautiful pets and they’re just as beautiful as you would get anywhere else from any breeder... they come with big personalities and often they’re trained and have beautiful behaviours already, so you kind of skip that step and you know what you’re getting.’’
