Gardening franchise branches out into meth lab cleanup

The popular ‘Jim’s’ franchise has come a long way since its humble beginnings in the early 1980s, branching out into Jim’s Hazardous Material Removal.

The latest front in the ever-expanding Jim’s empire is advertising its meth lab clean-up services.

‘‘(We) offer comprehensive, tailored packages for the testing and remediation of properties that have been exposed to methamphetamine manufacturing and high meth usage,’’ the franchise boasts.

‘‘Meth labs can be found almost anywhere — in houses, apartments, cars, storage units and motorhomes.’’

Since 1983, founder Jim Penman has grown his franchising business into a globe spanning private company with outlets in Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Canada.

The Jim’s group reportedly had a turnover of $400million last year and has branched out from gardening into cleaning, conveyancing, fencing, paving, glass replacement, computer services, dog washing, financial services and now hazardous chemical cleaning and removal.
