The Goulburn Valley-based Uniacke brothers have won the National Solar Vehicle Challenge, beating competitors from across the country with boat Optical Illusion.
Mason, 10, and Haydn, 12, Uniacke recently travelled to Sydney after they were invited to take part in the nationals, following a state title win in October.
Dad Tony Uniacke said the boys entered the advanced boats section, usually reserved for secondary school students, despite only one of the team members being in high school.
The pair battled it out in a series of nine round robin events against the 12 other teams.
‘‘It was an awesome weekend,’’ Mr Uniacke said.
‘‘We flew up to Sydney and it was both of the boys’ first time on a plane.
‘‘They had smiles from ear to ear.’’
Mr Uniacke said the interest in racing solar boats started seven years ago when a challenge was at Congupna Primary School where Mason was a student.
