Local homelessness tackled

By Shepparton News

FryersStreet Food Festival organisers have this year teamed up with BeyondHousing to help tackle homelessness in the local area.

In the lead-up to the event, a raffle has been organised with the support of a number of local businesses.

Many of those involved met at Forty Winks Shepparton last week to learn more about the importance of this cause and to receive thanks from BeyondHousing chief executive officer Celia Adams.

Mrs Adams said the funds raised from the raffle would help the organisation provide roofs over heads for those experiencing homelessness or to individuals seeking crisis accommodation.

The raffle includes more than $9000 worth of donated goods, with first prize set as a Luxury Bedroom Pack provided by Forty Winks Shepparton and Sessions Builders.

Metricon Homes regional manager Tania Tonks was delighted to support BeyondHousing, providing a barbecue for the raffle in partnership with Barbecues Galore Shepparton.

‘‘We’ve been involved with BeyondHousing for a long time and it’s important to give back,’’ she said.

‘‘Homelessness can happen to any of us.’’

Love Your Local event organiser Stacey Anderson said it was lovely to be able to support Shepparton and the local district with this event.

Raffle tickets are $2 each and are available at a range of businesses around town and many restaurants along Fryers St. The winners will be drawn at 9pm at the Fryers Street Food Festival on Saturday, November 17.
