Former Shepparton mayor Geoff Dobson will speak at Beneath the Wisteria tomorrow about living in the heart of the central business district.
Mr Dobson and his wife Prue recently made the move to shop-top living, setting up a house in a former drafting studio.
He will be a guest at tomorrow’s gathering in the Maude St Mall, sharing his thoughts on central city living.
Mr Dobson said they were not interested in moving into a retirement or lifestyle village, instead opting to find a suitable property in the heart of town.
He said the move had many advantages, which he would share during tomorrow’s discussion, including convenience, low maintenance and environmental factors.
‘‘I believe there are a number of locations in Shepparton now that are under utilised in terms of inner city living,’’ he said.
‘‘If we were able to convert some of those spaces into living it would create more activity in the CBD, more opportunities for retail and less environmental problems.’’
Beneath the Wisteria is a free gathering at the northern end of the Maude St Mall. It is on tomorrow from 11am. It is free, open to the public and lasts for an hour. Some seating is available in the mall. However, people are urged to bring a folding chair.
