Man arrested following fatal collision in Murchison

UPDATE 11.48am:

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a man following a fatal collision in Murchison this morning.

A 76-year-old Tatura man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The male victim, who is yet to be formally identified, was located deceased on the Murchsion-Violet Town Road about 3.10am by a passing motorist.

The investigation remains ongoing.

UPDATE 7.40am: 

Police are still at the scene of the incident and the road is closed at Murchison Bridge through to Murchison East.

Police are currently at the scene of a possible hit-run collision that has claimed the life of a man in Murchison.

Emergency services were called to Murchison-Violet Town Rd, near the intersection of Gillam Rd, after the man’s body was located by a passing motorist about 3.10am.

The man is yet to be formally identified.

At this stage the exact circumstances surrounding his death are yet to be established, however police believe it may be the result of a hit-run collision.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are en route.

Road closures are currently in place at Stevenson St and Wahring-Murchison East Rd.
