Wunghnu residents will not have to travel to Numurkah to post a letter for much longer, after Australia Post announced a new Community Post Office will open in the town on Monday.
The post office will be housed in the new Nine Mile Creek Cafe, at 11-15 Carlisle St, Wunghnu.
This building was originally home to the 1U Cafe, which closed in February this year.
An Australia Post spokesperson said the new Community Post Office would provide a range of postage products and would allow customers to collect and post their letters and parcels.
‘‘Australia Post would like to thank Noel and Belinda Rathbone for taking on the operations of the Community Post Office, and the Wunghnu community for their ongoing patience over the last few weeks,’’ a spokesperson said.
The town’s post office was previously located inside the Wunghnu General Store on Goulburn Valley Hwy, before it was closed suddenly a couple of weeks ago.
Residents voiced their concerns over the closure, saying it was an inconvenience for the ageing population who were forced to travel to a neighbouring town.
