A large crowd turned out to watch the auction of Toolamba’s historic double-red brick church

The recent auction of a historic church at Toolamba drew a large crowd.

Built in 1924, the double-red-brick church was snapped up by a Melbourne family planning to convert it into a residence.

The church sold for $196000, Kevin Hicks Real Estate’s Andrew Pogue said.

‘‘It was one of the most interesting auctions I’ve seen. The amount of inquiries was unbelievable,’’ Mr Pogue said.

He said the Toolamba and Toolamba West areas were becoming quite desirable, and he had sold six properties there in the past six months.

He attributed the sales to the area’s rural setting and proximity to Shepparton.

‘‘You can live in town and out of town simultaneously,’’ he said.
