Kyabram ups own record

April 13, 2018

The Kyabram Fire Brigade's annual collection was a success once again.

Kyabram Fire Brigade’s Good Friday Appeal once again broke records.

After a new record was set last year, the team went one better, raising $25641.85.

‘‘It went better than according to plan for us,’’ brigade captain Mick Crompton said.

‘‘To beat last year — which was such a great effort — really is amazing.’’

Mr Crompton said a slight change of format this year played a role in the results.

‘‘Our charity golf day is normally on Sunday, but what we thought was happening was people were playing on the Saturday and not wanting to play two days in a row.

‘‘So Parkland Golf Club was kind enough to let us host the event on the Saturday and we went from usually making around $400 or $500 to raising $1300 for the appeal.

‘‘That is a massive increase in just one part of the fundraising.’’

The introduction of a collector at the Shell service station this year also proved an inspired move.

‘‘We had people there from around 9am until 4pm and amazingly we collected $1005 just from people giving donations as they came in and out.’’

Wyuna Fire Brigade members also collected in their town and were taken aback when one resident wrote a cheque for $1000.

‘‘We just want to thank the community for helping out and donating the way they have,’’ Mr Crompton said. ‘‘This money could supply lifesaving equipment down at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

‘‘Now planning starts for next year as to how we are going to think outside the box and break another record for us.’’
