Bakers Delight Cobram is again supporting Breast Cancer Network Australia.
Each year, Australian Bakers Delight stores support BCNA with a pink bun campaign which runs from May 3 to 23.
Last year, $1.8million was raised by stores by selling pink buns and pink lady silhouettes which customers can write their name on and stick on the store’s wall.
This year, staff at Cobram have decided to introduce a new initiative to get community members to dip into their pockets for this great cause.
‘‘I just thought we should do something different this year, so I came up with the idea for a silent auction and was well supported by owner Sunny Binjal,’’ store manager Michelle Ventre said.
To be held on Monday, the silent auction has been made possible because of the generosity of several small businesses around town who have donated goods and services.
There will be 25 boxes, each filled with different products. A gold coin donation will get you a bid on one of the boxes. The person who bids highest will get that particular box.
‘‘It will be exciting because it is going to be all down to luck of the draw because the prizes will be a mystery to customers. The prizes range from $25 to $200,’’ Mrs Ventre said.
The store has been supporting the cause for as long as Mrs Ventre could remember and she said it hit close to home, with an employee’s mother battling the disease.
‘‘I went into one particular store to see if the owner wanted to get involved with what we are doing and straight away he offered $200 up front because he had lost his mother to breast cancer,’’ she said.
‘‘I suppose that goes to show the reach the disease has and how many people it affects.’’
