SHEPPRESENT: Mayor Dinny Adem announced that the Queen's Baton Relay will be passing through Shepparton on its way to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

We might be a few hundred kilometres from the action, but some of the magic of the 2018 Commonwealth Games will be coming right here.

Greater Shepparton Mayor Dinny Adem announced today that Shepparton was one of the communities selected to take part in the Queen's Baton Relay.

The relay, which is a tradition of the Commonwealth Games, will make its way across Australia for 100 days in the lead-up to the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Thousands of people across Australia will take part in the relay as baton bearers, and Cr Adem put the call out for local nominations.

"Being a baton bearer is a once in a lifetime opportunity," Cr Adem said.
